Competing in the THSBA Tournament
To represent our team fairly and safely, all Southwest Fishing Club members must follow the rules set by the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) and our school. Participation is open to students in grades 9-12, provided seniors are not 19 before September 1st. Fishing is a privilege, so academics come first—all anglers need a minimum 2.5 GPA and must be registered with an approved THSBA team. You can only fish for one THSBA team per year. If Southwest High School has a team, you must compete with us. Exceptions for partners who have fished together for two or more years may be considered if one student transfers schools. To stay eligible, you must be enrolled in school and passing all your classes. Our club advisors check grades regularly to make sure everyone stays on track. Each team includes one or two students and a qualified boat captain. For safety, only the students, captain, and an official observer are allowed on the boat (maximum of three people). Everyone must follow all tournament staff directions and safety protocols. You must also have a valid fishing license when required and provide completed THSBA registration and liability forms signed by a parent or guardian before you can hit the water. Tournament officials may deny entry to ensure safety and sportsmanship. We expect every member of the Southwest Fishing Club to behave with integrity and respect both on land and out on the lake. Let's represent our school well.
Non-Competitive Members
Students who choose not to compete simply need to pass their classes and stay in good disciplinary standing.
